In Nareth it is not only what you can do that counts, but how you look doing it. Your character's looks and power are two separate things: your gear provides the properties, and your Appearance decides what everyone else sees.
Equipment | Appearance
The paper doll in your Inventory has two tabs:
- Equipment – what you are actually wearing, with all its properties.
- Appearance – your look. Here you choose how your armour, weapon, hairstyle and cloak appear.
The Appearance collection
Every look you obtain goes into the collection – whether it comes from loot, quests, events or the Item Shop.
- A look is unlocked once and for good: it stays even if you later use up, sell or replace the item.
- You can put an unlocked look on with a single click; the properties of your gear don't change.
- The collection also shows the looks you haven't unlocked yet, sorted into groups.
- You can also open the collection with the U key (Wardrobe).
Appearance slots
| Slot | What it changes |
|---|---|
| Body | how your armour looks |
| Hair | your hairstyle – you can also visit Lilla, the Hairdresser in the capitals |
| Weapon | how your weapon looks – only for the same weapon type (sword on sword, bow on bow and so on) |
| Cloak | the cloak on your back |
| Mount | your mount |
| Pet | your companion |
Weapon looks
There are five sets, each with its own theme: Starsteel, Moonsteel, Firebird, Necromancer and Roseblade – 30 weapon looks in all, found in the Weapon Costume Chest.
Cloaks
The cloak has an equipment slot of its own, and everyone can see it on your character's back. Special cloaks are also handed out as rewards – for example to the members of guilds holding the fortresses of the Clan Siege.
Mounts
Mounts you obtain go into the Appearance collection, and you can call them from there at any time. While mounted you move 25% faster. Nareth's mounts are the factions' and the world's own creatures. Some mounts are also sold in the Heroes' Shop under the "Mounts and Auras" tab.
Auras and the Ashwing
Auras and wings are showy effects that surround your character. Use them to toggle them on and off; the setting is permanent – it survives logging out and back in – and every player can see it. While active, each one has its own icon on the effect bar, without a timer.
| Item | Kind |
|---|---|
| Ashwing | wings |
| Flame Aura | aura |
| Lightning Aura | aura |
| Poison Mist Aura | aura |
| Azurelight | aura |
| Crimsonlight | aura |
Auras are purely cosmetic: they change how you look, not how strong you are.
Pets
Pets are called with a summoning stone and sent back by using it again. A pet gains experience from its owner's kills, grows from level 1 to 30, and grants a bonus that increases with each level while it is out. Examples include the Little Kobold and the Wisp.
The active pet appears on a small panel on the left of the screen, above the chat: icon, name, level, bonus and experience bar. You get a notification when it levels up.
Heavenly Helper
The Heavenly Helper is a supporting companion. You receive the Heavenly Helper Summoning Stone for free at level 30. The helper heals you when your health drops below 70% and strengthens you with a blessing (attack / defence). It can be taught two lores – Healing Lore and Blessing Lore – both sold in the Heroes' Shop. While it is out, it has its own icon on the effect bar.
Fighting Heavenly Helper (in development)
A sword toggle on the pet panel switches the helper into combat mode: in solo runs of the Ashwell it heals or deals damage depending on its owner's class. The interface is finished; the feature launches with a server update.
